User Reviews about Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Excellent Vacuum. Lives up to all the hype and expectations ! Sucked up stuff from carpets that we didn't even know existed or could even be sucked out :-) Had a couple of Hoover bagless windtunnels prior to this. Very easy to maneuver and feels very lightweight (although = 16 lbs) - partly because of the ball making it turn on a dime and go places where no other vacuum has gone before. Easy to assemble out of the box (I didn't even read the manual in haste - am the kind that likes to constantly challenge my intuition). Great to look at ! (its part of the NY MoMA collection after all). Really like the ease with which the roller brush comes off for cleaning.

Purchased it from Amaazon @ 20% off MSRP.
Extremely proud and happy with the purchase. Wife is extremely impressed (for a change ;-) and considers me still capable of taking sane decisions. It was a surprise for her - and she just loves it. -- Great Vacuum
I have had this vacuum for about 3 months and have been very pleased with its operation. My previous vacuum was a Eureka bag vacuum that claimed to be better than Dyson by 60%. Honestly at first, this statement was true. However, the Eureka would start to loose suction almost immediately as the bag filled. Eventually over time the motor wore out and the vacuum was a shell of its former self. This vacuum was only 2 years old. Upon shopping for a replacement, I decided to give Dyson a try. At first I felt that all their advertising was a gimmick and the vacuum would not live up to its hype. My wife found it on sale and we bought it for a fraction of its retail price. Upon First use i was incredibly impressed.

Pros:
1. All Attachments click into position and latch. Most vacuums just jam attachment onto the end of the hose and use the compression fit. However most of the time through vigorous cleaning the attachment always pops off. With the Dyson this does not happen. The attachment stays on. They take it even further and when you put the attachment into its storage location on the machine it latches in and gives a satisfying tactile click. I really cant say enough how happy this makes me. I got really tired of reattaching and picking up attachments that would fall off while using the other vacuum.

2. This Vacuum has a big BALL. Ok I figure the ball was the biggest gimmick of the entire device, but it actually works. Around table legs, obstacles , if you get the A.D.H.D whim to change directions this vacuum effortlessly changes directions. The brush head also has a notch that allows you to swing around a couch leg and back up and get get the back side of legs without having to walk around the couch. Satisfying.

3. This Vacuum SUCKS. Like really sucks. I have a black lab and he sheds like crazy. To help manage his shedding we give him a bath about once a week. The bathroom gets utterly destroyed after his bath with his hair everywhere. I simply close the door, let everything dry and come back with the Dyson. The vacuum gets every last strand of his black hair up. It happens effortlessly. 30 seconds to a minute the bathroom is clean again for guests. It also helped us save our carpet. When we moved into our house, we figured we would be replacing the carpet soon. Turns out what we thought was worn carpet was in reality, dirty carpet. The first time we used the Dyson, it pickup Ungodly amounts of loose fibers, dog hair and dirt. It brightened the carpet up and really showed the root cause of our problem. The carpet was dirty!

4. The Root Cyclone canister is just as easy to use. You can use the vacuum till its full and not loose any suction. But emptying the canister is really easy. Pop, click, walk to trash can and the bottom falls out so you don't touch any of the garbage that you vacuumed up. One thing I will objectively note, is that when you vacuum up a lot of pet hair, sometimes a little bit will get jammed between the center air column and sidewall. However, a simple tap against the trash can and it usually comes out.

5. Goes between carpet and wood-floors really easily. Our house is about 50-50 carpet and hardwoods. The Dyson is perfect because your not constantly bending over and adjusting what floor type you are on. It does such a good job on the wood-floors that we usually don't sweep them anymore. Vacuum and then mop. Now Dyson does offer a hardwood floor attachment that gets a better suction seal onto the surface and allegedly gets even the dust. I still mop because it polishes the floors and dusts them. However, I have looked at that attachment to see if would reduce the amount I need to mop.

6. Light weight. This vacuum is easy to pickup and move around. My wife has no problem handling it, and without complaint takes it up and down the stairs. It really doesn't bother me how heavy the vacuum is. With performance like this, I would still use it if it weighed as much as Bulldozer. However, my wife appreciates its portability.

7. Filters are washable. This was my biggest selling point in the store. My previous vacuum really took me to the cleaners with belts, filters and bags. The fact that the 2 filters in this thing are hand washable really impressed me. You pull them out, wash them, let them air dry and they are as good as new. They don't even need to be oiled like a K&N automobile air filter. Additionally, The belt on this thing is high quality and reminds me of a timing belt in a car. It has teeth and grooves into gears. Most vacuums just use a tension fit and heavy duty rubber band. This high quality belt is what allows the vacuum to power through your carpets. No loss of torque and no slipping because there is a little resistance.

8. The cord is of a higher quality and doesnt tangle. Some vacuums take some cost cutting measures and their cords tend to coil and tangle. The Dyson doesnt do this. A small detail I really appreciate.

Cons.

1. This vacuum performs very well, but not always consistently over different surfaces. I alluded to it earlier, but on hardwoods, the vacuum picks up the debris. However leaves the dust. Its nit picky but something I noticed. They do make a better hardwood floor attachment that gets a much better seal on the floor, but that would mean constantly changing the floor attachment out. It is easy enough to do, however I decided to just mop the floors. I have to do it anyways and it picks up the dust and polishes the floors keeping them looking healthy.

2. The hose is really stiff. It does well at retracting and staying compact and out of sight when stored. But when you want to clean something above your head, the recoil strengh of the hose constantly brings the base of the vacuum closer to you. So you tend to knock it into things, and drag it around with you. Maybe in time it will loosen up a bit, but It does annoy me sometimes.

3. The handle doubles as a rigid extension hose. Sometimes it is a little too long for certain tasks. This leaves you connecting the attachment directly to the hose, which sometimes doesn't give the necessary reach. At times I wish there was something in between. Also, since the ergonomics of the handle doubles as pushing the vacuum and using the extension hose, this can causes some awkward moments when doing baseboards. The edger attachment has a 45 degree rake on it. Which means, when the edger is attached to the extension hose and you go to clean the baseboards; This operation only works efficiently in one direction. Typically when pulling the edger towards you. When you cross the plain where the vacuum sits and continue up the wall now pushing the edger it produces this awkward fighting motion with the hose. This is probably more of a problem with my coordination, then the vacuum, but It causes me to get tangled up occasionally in tight spots. More practice and I can easily learn to work around this quirk. I really think it has to do with the ergonomics of the handle and extension pipe.

Overall I have been exceptionally pleased with the purchase. I was worried about spending this much on a vacuum. However, the quality of the product really justified the expense. Additionally, If you keep an watchful eye out, Dyson vacuums tend to go on clearance and you can save considerably. Using Price Matching policies of other stores and you can usually score a vacuum at a good price in stock.
-- Best Vacuum I have ever owned.
When I say that this vacuum really sucks I, of course, mean it in a strictly positive sense. It is powerful, as the ad says; it does not lose suction, and the bag is so easy to empty my wife even volunteers to do it sometimes. I have already recommended it to a family member and she is as pleased with it as I am. -- This vacuum REALLY sucks
Purchased the Dyson DC25 3 months ago to retire the old hoover. I thought the wife would like it as it is an obvious upgrade. Here are a couple of her comments. It is too heavy. Carrying this thing up the stairs is out of the question. She does not care that it turns sharply around objects because it does not go straight as easy as the old dust blowing hoover. I must agree we vacuum straight more than we dart around objects. I admit I looked like a monkey with a football when I first tried to get the handheld part out to do the stairs.
Since the quality is good, and it really does vacuum good, I still give 3 stars.(don't tell her though).
-- The wife not real happy with it
