User Reviews about Hoover BH50015 Platinum Collection LINX Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

Hoover Platinum Linx Handheld Vacuum

The Hoover Linx handheld is not a bad vacuum, it's just that Hoover could have made it significantly better with only minor changes. The positives of the Linx are many; the rechargeable battery is common with the stick floor vacuum; the vacuum has very good suction and airflow; the battery retains its charge over long periods between uses; the vacuum is the right size and weight for most jobs.

Having given the vacuum its props, its shortcomings must also be taken into account. The Linx has the worst "accessories" that I've ever seen. There is a small plastic nozzle on the front of the snout that swivels up into place over the nose. The nozzle is cheaply made, won't stay in place, and doesn't extend the nozzle enough. To make things even worse, Hoover has "designed" a retractable plastic brush that is supposed to extend from the small plastic swivel nozzle and remain in place by friction. Needless to say, the brush doesn't stay extended for more than a few seconds at a time. This means that unless you engineer some way to secure the brush (screws, glue, removable pin?), the brush is useless. This is one of the poorest attempts to provide accessories that I've ever seen. Hoover should be profoundly embarrassed. Even though it would have meant more parts, a solid set of removable snout extensions that could be securely attached would have made this vacuum MUCH more usable.

My second complaint about the Linx is that the snout does not extend far enough. When trying to reach nooks and crannies (for example between the seats of a car), the vacuum is just too bulky to get where it needs to go. The previously mentioned swivel nozzle is supposed to provide additional reach, but it only extends about an inch, and is still not long enough. I would have been happy to pay extra for a short hose with a narrow wand on it, but Hoover doesn't offer that option.

My third and final complaint has to do with the dust cup. The capacity is VERY small and the cup fills quickly if you're vacuuming up anything bulky. This means that the cup must be frequently emptied. If the cup were easy to empty, that wouldn't be too bad, but the filter comes off with the cup and must be removed in order to empty that cup. So every time you empty the cup, you also have to pull and replace the filter. It isn't that large a task, but having the filter remain attached to the vacuum would have made the job easier. Again, lack of design skill by Hoover...

Overall, I would probably buy the Linx again, mainly because it uses the same battery as my Linx floor vac. The design of the floor model, however, is much better than that of the handheld. For just a bit more design effort, Hoover could have made this handheld Linx a GREAT product. Unfortunately, with the compromises mentioned above, I can only grade it a "C." Hoover has the potential to do much better, and I'm hoping that their next model will realize that potential. -- Hoover Linx Handheld - A good vacuum that could be better
Absolutely love this hand vac. It is the best I've ever used. Only conplaint is the brush will not stay in the usable position so I do what I read with the other reviews, put a large rubber band behind it to hold it. -- viewsonic 24 in lcd tv
