User Reviews about Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum

Hoover finally got one right. The Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum (henceforth, the Linx) has a battery that doesn't lose significant charge over time. That means that I can plug in a charged battery, vacuum, put the Linx in the closet for a week or two, and vacuum some more without having to recharge. My experience with other cordless vacuums (and tools!) is that their batteries need charging after about two weeks of idle time whether the item was used or not. Hoover's battery is better.

The Linx does a great job on bare floors. The rollers in the head make it easy to roll, and the ability to suck up muck along the baseboards' edges makes vacuuming a "one pass" event. Anytime I need to transition from bare floor to carpet or rugs, the thumb-switch on the handle makes activating the carpet brush a one-hand job. The brush also does a good job on both short-pile rugs and deep-pile carpet. I don't use the Linx on stairs (I bought the handheld Linx for that), so I don't have issues on stair vacuuming like some other reviewers did. The actual air flow is very strong and the Linx picks up almost everything (including hard-to-lift pet hair) in one pass.

The battery life is 20 minutes; period. The vacuum doesn't really slow down, it just stops. That's fine with me. I don't want to vacuum for more than 20 minutes anyway, and if I did, I'd pop in the second battery (the one that's normally in the handheld Linx - they conveniently use the same battery). If you need to vacuum for longer, you need a corded vacuum - not a cordless. Even if the battery would work for more than 20 minutes, the dust canister will be full anyway.

Which brings me to one of my gripes about the Linx - the dust canister and its attendant filters. Although the canister comes off easily and is fairly easy to empty, the filter must be at least wiped with your hand every time that the canister gets full. There is a "coarse filter" plastic screen inside the dust canister that gets pretty gunked in 20 minutes of vacuuming. I usually need to twist that off & pull the worst stuff off of it before replacing. The fabric & foam "fine filter" resides in the top of the canister. I normally have to wipe the surface if that with my finger also to get the worst of the dust off. Although I've made this sound very time consuming, it actually isn't. I can dump the canister and clean the filters in about 2 minutes (maybe less). Having the clear plastic canister allows me to easily see whether it's time for a dump & clean or not.

There are three LEDs on the handle that indicate the remaining battery charge. When the battery is charged, all three are lit. As you use the vacuum, the LEDs sequentially go out until the last one is blinking. When the blinking starts, the battery is almost gone. The Linx is light enough that I can lift it easily with one hand when I want to. Of course, since there is no electrical cord, the need to lift is less frequent than it would be with a regular vacuum.

The head is slim enough to fit under most beds, couches, & coffee tables. The handle, though, is not, which brings me to my second (and last) gripe about the Linx. The handle has a "hump" on the front that lets the canister take up less space in the back. The hump prevents the Linx from reaching as far as I would like for it to go under beds, couches, and shelves. If Hoover had only given me more reach! The extra reach could have been achieved by either moving the canister farther up the handle or by moving the canister further to the back of the handle. Either way would have allowed the head to go further under the furniture. Maybe in the next release?

Overall, my wife was reluctant to buy a new vacuum (she's thrifty; I'm not). Once she tried the Linx, though, she was sold. We don't use our old canister vacuums much any more and I think that they're destined to be yard-sale fodder the next time we have one. The Linx wasn't cheap, but with the two minor reservations that I've mentioned, it is one of the best vacuums we've had. I would buy this again if I were in the market for a vacuum. Used within its limitations (20 minutes of vacuuming or less; use a hand-held for everything but floors), Hoover has a winner! -- Hoover Linx Stick wins my approval!
I bought my Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum after (1) reading many of all the Customer Reviews on the "www.Amazon.com" website (2) becauseI have a beautiful long-haired 18 pound cat that sheds his fur everywhere and (3) because I hate wasting time plugging and unplugging a vacuum cleaner into each room as you clean

It took me 5 minutes to unpack my new Hoover from the box and have it completely assembled, then I waited 3 hours for the battery to charge.

I first vacuumed 2 rooms with my Shark cordless sweeper; the other 2 rooms with my Dirt Devil small vacuum with a cord. Then I put my brand new Hoover to the test and I was amazed to see how much dirt and pet hair my new Hoover picked up - and my Shark and Dirt Devil left behind - I had to empty the dustcup after vacuuming each room! The Hoover was so easy to clean with, and so light to maneuver it was no effort for me to clean. The dust cup was easy to empty and you could readily see as soon as it was full. It was certainly powerful enough to pick up loads -and I mean loads - of ground-in kitty fur from my rugs - which both my other cleaners had missed. I absolutely love my new Hoover and am going to buy one for my mother.

-- Best ever cordless vacuum!!!
Have had and used this stick vac for a couple of months now. After owning 4-5 other stick vacs over the recent past I can definitely say this is by far the best. First-rate design and engineering plus performance matched by none. Easy to use and empty. Powerful and lightweight. Battery could be better but this becomes a small matter compared to the excellent performance. Well worth the premium price. -- Best stick vacuum ever
Love this vacuum. I had many vacuums in my lifetime and this has to be the' best. It is easy to assemble and comfortable to push and manuver (no backache) . By the way it cleans very well!! Amazon was very reliable with the order and it arrived when they said it would. -- hoover platinum linx cordless stick vacuum
